Plans a foot...

We have exciting news....

We are currently digging in our garden to....

Build a new house.

Our current one was always temporary although we have been here for 7 years as we knew it had problems, namely the rising damp, condensation, the ongoing battle with constant mould growth, and the cold. It is so cold in the winter with a single brick skin. We can see our breath sitting down to watch tv. I reached the end of my thether when we discovered our kitchen units sinking because we have an underground stream running through the kitchen rising in a huge puddle, it was the last straw.

So a year ago we starting getting plans drawn up and now we are just digging out our garden for the foundations. Its crazy really as our current house built in 1880 has no real foundations but our new house which has to be piled has piles going up to 16 metres into the ground. The amount of earth that has had to come out of the ground is collasal, mountains and mountains have been removed. The boy loves it as he has taken all his diggers and dumpers to the top.

We have a long way to go and it's going to take us years to finish.... Just need to win the lottery then it will get finished... Reminds me I must be in it to win it!

I have been distracting myself from the mess with some pretty fibres....

I have been creating loads of spinning batts....

I have decicded to list them in my little shop Spinstar fibre, so I can contribute something to the building fund. I free pretty useless being a stay at home mum. I can't see a way of getting a job with looking after two kids, with one at school and working around my husband's erratic work times. I admire people that do manage to work but also think maybe the kids would miss out on my time too.

Have a great week... Its mud mud mud here!

Sounds exciting! And how sensible to be surrounding yourself with prettiness to distract from mud and diggers... Good luck!

Gosh - have you been in touch with Kevin and Grand Designs? I wish you well with your project - very exciting. My sister built her house in her garden and it turned out much better than her old house (and that was pretty good) - now she rents out her old house and sits pretty in her new one!
Lovely wool mind
Thank you for calling in
Best wishes
Jenny

Your batts are absolutely gorgeous! I'm not surprised you need some calm distractions with all that going on :)

Oh goodness, how exciting, and scary too. Please share the process with us, because I'm surely not the only person fascinated by such things! x
